Activity Description: Describe in as much detail as possible.

 

 

What do you want the students to learn?

 

  • TLW be able to record distance and range of various locations connected to science.
  • TLW create a bar graph recording the elevations.
  • TLW connect science and math.

 

 

 

Set-up

 

  • GPS
  • Camera
  • Log

 

 

 

What steps will the students take?

 

  • Find waypoints and take pictures of locations connected to science (weathering, erosion, etc.).
  • Record the distance to the hundredth as they track each point.
  • Create a bar graph to record the elevations of each point.
  • Find the range of elevations.
  • Find the median of elevations.
  • Find the average elevation.
  • Find the mean elevation, if any.

 

 

 

Extra Activities?

 

  • Work with scientist in local area.
  • Have students create an inventory map.
  • Use Google Earth to view each part.
